We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented self-starter to fill the full-time position of Outreach Coordinator/Manager, which is available immediately. This position is expected to work in our downtown Chicago office and will be a key staff contributor to our team development and community presence

The Outreach Department leads CAIR-Chicago’s internal and external community outreach including: mosque outreach, internship programs, government liaisons, community alliances & youth development initiatives. The Outreach Coordinator position reports to the Executive Director.

FULL-TIME OUTREACH COORDINATOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build and maintain relationships with area mosques and community organizations;

  • Build and maintain relationships with local, state, and federal elected officials and government agencies;

  • Direct CAIR-Chicago’s internship/externship and volunteer programs;

  • Recruit and manage teams of department interns and volunteers to develop and sustain specific community outreach, civic engagement, public education and advocacy efforts;

  • Administer the Muslim Youth Development Symposium (grades 8-12) and its related events;

  • Coordinate and publicize initiatives for community outreach and civic engagement via public education and awareness, interfaith and intercultural engagement, and global outreach that relate to civil rights, civil liberties, social justice, and human rights

  • Create, coordinate and conduct presentations and workshops on topics relating to Islam and Muslims

  • Assist the Executive Director and Board in fundraising efforts, primarily soliciting sponsors, arranging speaking engagements, and increasing the chapters’ visibility;

  • Represent the chapter and constituency as an official liaison at events and fundraising efforts—boosting broader engagement while increasing chapter’s visibility and credibility;

  • Analyze community needs to determine, sustain, and improve department’s goals, initiatives, and best practices

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in related fields: communications, human resources, public relations, marketing; or equivalent experience;

  • 1-2 years of working with or within the Muslim American Community;

  • Committed to the mission, vision, and values of CAIR-Chicago, the Outreach Department, as well as its focus areas of civil rights, media activism, and research;

  • Ability to establish priorities, manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and work well under pressure;

  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills;

  • Engaging, friendly, outgoing and apt in boosting morale;

  • Experience working with adolescents and young adults;

  • Familiarity with a variety of concepts, practices, and procedures related to community outreach, civic engagement, talent recruitment and management, youth mentorship and development, intercultural and

  • Possess an adept knowledge of the Muslim American community’s profiles, issues, and networks, as well as the exhaustive cultural, sociopolitical, economic, and other demographic nuances of the greater Chicago metropolitan region and Illinois as related to civil rights, civil liberties, social justice, and human rights;

  • Candidate must have access to reliable transportation to represent CAIR-Chicago throughout the Chicago Metropolitan area.
