The Chicago Monitor Granted Press Pass

The Chicago Monitor was granted a press pass on Tuesday, marking another step forward for the news publication. In Chicago, the pass is issued by the Chicago Police Department’s Office of News Affairs. The Monitor has a close relationship with CAIR-Chicago and its Communications Department. Founded in 2012 by CAIR-Chicago’s Executive Director Ahmed Rehab and Communications Coordinator Aymen Abdel Halim, it seeks to offer a platform for in-depth news analysis and alternative reporting touching especially on stories that often go under-reported.

The press pass allows for government-issued identification of news organizations and their members. With it, journalists and reporters are granted access to city conferences, meetings, and other newsworthy events. This opportunity will help further The Chicago Monitor’s mission to challenge mainstream media coverage of Islam, Muslims, and other minorities, emphasizing human rights and civil rights, at a critical moment for these communities.
