CAIR-Chicago is a nonprofit civil rights organization that advocates for and protects the rights of Muslim Americans and other marginalized communities through advocacy, litigation, public education, and community partnerships. We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented self-starter to fill the full-time position of Communications Coordinator, which is available immediately. This position is expected to work in our downtown Chicago office and will be a key staff contributor to our upcoming annual fundraiser.

The Communications Department adds vital perspective to public discourse, publishes in a variety of mediums and produces the latest in promotion collateral, including audio, video, graphic design, web design, blogs, and other multimedia.

FULL-TIME COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Executing CAIR-Chicago’s communications strategy in partnership with Executive Director

  • Strategizing and managing graphic design, photography, print layout, video editing and other multimedia needs

  • Maintaining CAIR-Chicago branding protocol and aesthetic

  • Managing social media accounts and implementing strategies for strategic growth

  • Acting as Editor-in-Chief of the Chicago Monitor, and editing articles up to journalistic standards and recruiting writers as needed

  • Designing and managing websites, creating graphic designs, and supporting the facilitation of projects such as the Travelers Assistance Project, and other upcoming programs and projects

  • Creating marketing materials such as posters, fliers, print material, e-mail newsletters, and announcements while upholding brand awareness and standards in all marketing materials

  • Researching and implementing the use of new technologies to enhance CAIR-Chicago’s communications

  • Managing the org website by regularly updating and creating original content, updating with other departments’ news and events, action alerts, and other relevant information

  • Effectively describing and promoting CAIR-Chicago’s work at events, speaking engagements, media interviews, etc.

  • Ensuring all communications adheres to CAIR-Chicago’s core values and mission

  • Facilitating the research and development of content for publication including annual reports

  • Coordinating original articles including letters to the editor and commentaries

  • Serving as a resource for news-media

  • Supervising interns to support Communications Department needs

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in related fields or equivalent experience

  • Self-learner, self-motivated, and able to work quickly

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

  • Adept knowledge on CAIR-Chicago’s area of civil rights, grassroots organization, and legislative activism work

  • Superior analytical skills and creativity

  • Ability to work independently and with a team

  • Ability to troubleshoot, solve problems, and pay strong attention to detail

  • Ability to establish priorities, manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and work under pressure

  • Familiarity with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures

  • Microsoft Office proficiency

  • Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, etc) proficiency is a must

  • Basic photography, film making, and video editing proficiency

  • Experience with advanced camera and microphone equipment is a plus. Willingness to learn required.

  • HTML, CSS, and content-management proficiency a plus. Willingness to learn required.

COMPENSATION

  • Starting Salary: $36,000-$38,000, depending on relevant experience and education

  • Health, Dental, & Vision Benefits after 3-month probation

  • Time off for sick days, vacation, and holidays

  • Future compensation based on performance and organizational growth
