CAIR-Chicago Celebrates Asylum Approval for Afghan Client

(Chicago, IL - September 19, 2023) - The Chicago office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Chicago), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, is thrilled to announce the successful approval of asylum for Nazir Mohammadi, who fled persecution following the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan.

Mohammadi sought refuge in the United States after escaping Afghanistan. His journey was marked by unimaginable challenges, including grave threats to his life and freedom.

In a statement, CAIR-Chicago’s staff attorney Joseph Milburn, Esq. expressed gratitude and joy saying,

“We are happy that Mr. Mohammadi was approved for asylum. We believe that the ability to obtain asylum is a human right and that people should be able to obtain asylum due to fleeing unsafe conditions such as terrorism. We had several meetings with him, we gathered the documents to support his story and we put together a strong package to assert that he was entitled to asylum. Consequently, we are inspired to continue to help others apply for asylum.”

CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
