Settlement Reached for Wrongfully Fired Muslim Woman

CAIR-Chicago recently settled a discrimination suit  in favor of a Muslim woman fired for not attending an annual company event. In November 2006, the woman's employer planned to throw an annual event which included music and the serving of alcohol. She assisted in planning the event, but told her employer that she did not feel comfortable attending such an event. The employer said that she was not required to attend. However, soon after the exchange, she was fired from the company with the explanation that she was "not a fit" there because of her non-attendance.

CAIR-Chicago filed a discrimination suit with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in April 2007. The case was recently settled in the woman's favor.
